Sludge
Processing Area

The sludge processing
area at the plant consists of two belt filter presses, and ancillary equipment,
that are used to remove moisture from the digested sludge and press it into a
sludge cake that can be transported by truck from the plant for disposal.
This stage is the final treatment of sludge. Digested sludge is pumped
from the sludge storage wells, where the sludge is mixed in a conditioning tank
with polymer that coagulates the sludge particles and allows water to drain
freely. The conditioned sludge is then placed on the filter presses, which
compress the sludge and displace additional water. The remaining sludge
cake is conveyed by the presses to a waiting dump truck, where is transported
off-site for land disposal.
